Summer Style Series: The Casual Outfit

Summer is without doubt my favourite season. As much as I love curling up in front of the fire with a steaming mug of hot chocolate in the winter, I just can't get enough of the scorching hot sun and long summer evenings with friends. Another of my favourite things about summer is the fashion, although layering is long gone and I can't wear my beloved knitwear, I love wearing floaty tops and dresses and being able to leave the house without a coat.

I have decided to put together a series of 3 posts, showing you some of my favourite outfits for this summer. I'm kicking off the series with a casual outfit, something you can wear about town or out with your friends in the daytime to keep cool and look cool at the same time (ok yes that was cringey wording).

 Hat - H&M
Top - New Look
Shorts - H&M
Bag - Accessorize
Sandals - Shoe Zone*

In the summer I tend to get really lazy with my hair and make-up, and end up leaving the house bare faced with unbrushed hair shoved up in a messy bun. A great way to make myself look a little bit more put together is to wear this sophisticated floppy hat, to hide that unbrushed hair while also sheltering my face from the sun.

I'm absolutely loving the trend of off-the-shoulder tops this season! I think it's a fantastic way to show a bit of skin without it being too much, and the shoulders are a very under-appreciated body part. I love the little tassels on this one from New Look, paired with the Aztec-inspired embroidery it gives off a very festival-y vibe.

Fun fact: I actually made these shorts out of a pair of my boyfriend's old jeans on a really hot day a few weeks ago when I was overheating in my outfit which was definitely not weather appropriate! Although they're a bit big around the waist, men's jeans are usually made with a far slimmer thigh part than women's, so they almost look like they were always meant to be my shorts!

I am a big fan of these Gladiator Sandals* from Shoe Zone, they bring a lovely bit of detail to any outfit and make a nice change from black flats or flip flops. The metal detail on the front makes them look a bit more fancy and elegant than a usual gladiator sandal, and brings more of a city-girl vibe to a shoe that is normally very beachy.

I hope you liked the first outfit in my Summer Style Series - keep your eye out for the other two posts; The Beach Oufit and The Formal Oufit!
