Afternoon Tea at Cocorico Patisserie, Cardiff

A few weekends ago, my family and I went for Afternoon Tea at Cocorico Patisserie. There was no special occasion, but we had been wanting to try it out for ages so finally decided to book in! On arrival, we were greeted by the owner and shown to our table. I have a soft spot for the staff as they know I study French so always make sure to put my skills to the test!

We were presented with a menu of their teas (supplied by Waterloo Tea!), coffees and soft drinks, and were told to pick whatever we wanted. I opted for a regular breakfast tea, as I love the way it complements scones!

On the bottom layer of our cake stand, we had a selection of savoury snacks. There was prawns on toast, a goats cheese and spinach pastry, and chicken with pesto and tomato on bread. They were all really nice and devoured in minutes!

On the second layer, we had a variety of mini versions of the patisserie's well-known petit fours. I often come here to have a coffee and one of these with my boyfriend, so I was really excited to get to try every different flavour! We had raspberry with basil, raspberry, coffee and dark chocolate, and chocolate with spices. I adore how perfectly they are made, they almost look too good to eat (but not quite!)

Finally, on the top layer we had a delightfully fluffy scone each with jam and vanilla cream. This made a nice, lighter change from clotted cream and made the scones far less stodgy than they can be in other places!

If you live in Cardiff or are just popping in, I would highly recommend giving Cocorico Patisserie on Whitchurch Road a try. They do a selection of coffees, petit fours, pastries, freshly baked bread and obviously this wonderful afternoon tea. They really bring a little touch of France to Cardiff, something I love as I want to move to France when I'm older (one of the reasons for this being the amazing patisseries and boulangeries!)
